Palo Santo (Holy Wood) Smudge Stick

Palo Santo, literally meaning "Holy Wood", in Spanish is a tree that is widely distributed throughout Central and South America. Palo Santo is used in South America much as White Ceremonial Sage is used in North America; to combat negative energy and to cleanse the space. It is often used by Amazonian shaman in sacred plant spirit ceremonies where the rising smoke of the lit stick is thought to enter the energy field of the participants to clear misfortune and negative thoughts and to chase away evil spirits. Its use reportedly dates back to Incan times.

Unlike other smudging material, Palo Santo is different in that it is highly fragrant in its raw form and does not necessarily require being lit by flame- though it usually is for ceremonial purpose.

So, how do we use it? Hold a single stick at a slight downward angle, light the end using a candle or lighter. Allow the stick to burn for 30 seconds or so and then blow out the flame. Blow on the smoldering end to spread the fragrant smoke wherever you'd like to clear or scent the air as you move through your space. Or, light and blow out at above and then place in a fire safe vessel or dish to smolder on its own. Relight as needed.

Available in single sticks, or in a value bundle of 6.
